“We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that. Surely we all have a responsibility to care for our Blue Planet. The future of humanity and indeed, all life on earth, now depends on us.”
Sir David Attenborough
We are all in this together and we all need to make a shift in our day to day lives. The good news is, every small thing makes a difference. Grassroots Sustainability wants to help you to instil a greater understanding of how you can implement sustainable practices to make a difference. Central to the implementation of practices and procedures is educating to ensure positive impacts for you, your staff and your greater community. This may be done through running a workshop, facilitating a staff meeting, developing workplace policy, running a waste audit or something tailored to your needs. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
James has been an integral part of our sustainability journey so far. His friendly, approachable and supportive manner has assisted in staff embracing sustainability within all areas of the school. Most recently he assisted us with the consolidation of our waste systems and providers, resulting in huge financial savings. James’ knowledge and understanding of schools in general, education, resources and sustainability has been of great value to our school. Claire Bartlett | Deputy Head of Junior School, The Geelong College
I have worked closely with James for the past 5 years and found him to be very approachable and who we as a school trust implicitly for sustainability. His positive approach to sustainability in schools has allowed our school to make real and quick advancements in the management of sustainability at Kardinia International College. He has advised us on many occasions and we have sent many staff to Professional Development days that he has run. I know that if I need advice or have any issues to do with sustainability I can call him at any time and get good sensible advice that is backed by data and a real working knowledge of schools. James is a real asset to our South West Region as I don’t think we would be in as good as position if we had not had James guiding us. Bram McLeod | Deputy Head of Senior School, Kardinia International College
I have had the pleasure of working with James McLennan on behalf of Aireys Inlet Primary School for the past 2 years. James is engaging and accessible to staff, students and parents both in our Sustainability Group and the wider school community. Working well with both children and adults alike, he demonstrates a respect for each groups ability to understand what is being learned. School staff and I have attended local workshops and presentations hosted by James and his team. We have found them well run and informative with great ideas and contacts to take away.
With a focus on sustainability across the Victorian curriculum, small rural schools such as ours often lack access to resources and rely heavily on volunteers to participate in programs. To have someone like James who is so generous with his time and knowledge means a great deal to Aireys Inlet Primary. His assistance and patience has been invaluable. It has allowed our school to gain a strong understanding of what we are aiming to achieve and I look forward to our continued partnership. Michelle Vernieux | School Council President & Sustainability Group Member Aireys Inlet PS
